Had a new timing belt fitted yesterday by Ford dealer. Everything was fine before the work. However, since collecting the car there is a sort of ' hunting ' when ticking over as the engine revs rise and fall slightly. Also when moving of from standstill it feels as if hestitating or holding back and then goes fine. I have looked for loose electrical connections and damaged hoses but can't see a reason for the problem. Anyone had such a problem following belt replacement? Any advice or pointer to check would be much appreciated. KF..

yes take it back and shout very loudly at them to sort it.

Curiously enough I had a similar experience the other day - I had removed the air filter box to get at an air con pipe and when I put it all together again I had the is starnge hesitancy - When I wnet back over it in my mind I ralised I hadn't put the spring clip back on the Air intake pipe (the one with the MF) properly. Sure enough when I checked that was it - All sorted now.

Checked the clip sealing the hose to the Maf and found it OK, but then disconnected the MAF wiring plug while engine ticking over and the roughness disappeared. Connected the plug and again it started hunting as if about to cut out and then pick up again. Also noticed unusual smoke from the exhaust. Once the engine warms up after a few minutes it appears ok... I have had MAF problems in the past when power drops away when accelerating to overtake . Switch off and re-start would cure the problem until the next time but this uneven running at low revs is new to me . Maybe I should try a new MAF.. KF
